Jhol Momo

Jhol Momo is a popular Nepali dish consisting of steamed dumplings served in a flavorful and spicy broth.

Ingredients

  • Fresh coriander leaves - For garnish
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili - 2, slit
  • Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Salt - To taste
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Ground chicken - 1 pound
  • All - purpose flour - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour with water and knead to make a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the ground chicken, onion, garlic, ginger, cilantro, soy sauce, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to combine.
  3. Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into a thin circle.
  4. Place a spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges to form a momo shape, sealing the filling inside.
  5. Steam the momos in a steamer for about 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.
  6. In a separate pan, heat vegetable oil and add chopped tomatoes, green chili, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
  7. Add water to the pan and bring it to a boil. Add the steamed momos to the boiling broth.
  8. Simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.
  10. Serve the Jhol Momo hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves.
