Hickory Smoked Chicken

A delicious, smoky chicken dish that's perfect for a summer barbecue.

Ingredients

  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 tablespoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Hickory wood chips - 2 cups
  • Whole chicken - 1 (about 4 pounds)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your smoker to 250°F and add the hickory wood chips.
  2. Rinse the chicken and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Rub the chicken all over with the olive oil.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub this mixture all over the chicken.
  5. Place the chicken in the smoker and cook for about 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  6. Remove the chicken from the smoker and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving and serving.
