This delicious fusion of Greek and American comfort food combines the savory flavors of a gyro with the creamy, cheesy goodness of macaroni and cheese.

Ingredients

  • Tzatziki sauce - For serving
  • Feta cheese - 1/2 cup, crumbled
  • Cheddar cheese - 2 cups, shredded
  • Milk - 2 cups
  • Flour - 2 tablespoons
  • Butter - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion - 1, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Ground lamb - 1 pound
  • Macaroni - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground lamb, garlic, onion, oregano, salt, and pepper, and cook until the lamb is browned and the onion is soft.
  3. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux, then gradually whisk in the milk. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
  4. Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Combine the cooked macaroni, lamb mixture, and cheese sauce in a large baking dish. Top with the crumbled feta cheese.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Serve the mac and cheese hot, with a dollop of tzatziki sauce on top.
