Gratin de Pommes de Terre

Gratin de Pommes de Terre, also known as Potato Gratin, is a classic French dish made with layers of thinly sliced potatoes, cream, and cheese.

Ingredients

  • Butter - 2 tablespoons, melted
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Fresh thyme - 1 tablespoon, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
  • Gruyere cheese - 1 cup, grated
  • Heavy cream - 1 1/2 cups
  • Potatoes - 2 pounds, peeled and thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream, minced garlic, and fresh thyme over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Grease a baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the grated Gruyere and Parmesan cheese on top.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses.
  7. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
  9. Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
