Flatbread

This homemade garlic herb flatbread is soft, flavorful, and perfect for dipping or as a base for pizza.

Ingredients

  • Sugar - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dried herbs (such as oregano, basil, or thyme) - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Warm water - 3/4 cup
  • Active dry yeast - 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • All - purpose flour - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, dried herbs, salt, and sugar.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  4. Stir until a dough forms, then transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions.
  8. Roll out each portion into a thin circle or oval shape.
  9. Place the flatbreads on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown and slightly crispy.
  10. Remove from the oven and brush the flatbreads with olive oil and sprinkle with additional herbs and salt, if desired.
  11. Serve warm and enjoy!
