Fish and Chips

Classic British fish and chips made with crispy battered fish and thick-cut potato chips.

Ingredients

  • Salt and vinegar - To taste
  • Vegetable oil - For frying
  • Potatoes - 4 large, peeled and cut into thick chips
  • Cold water - 1 cup
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • All - purpose flour - 1 cup
  • White fish fillets - 4 fillets

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the cold water to the flour mixture, whisking until smooth and thick.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Dip each fish fillet into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off, then carefully place it into the hot oil.
  5. Fry the fish for about 5-6 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  6. In the same hot oil, fry the potato chips in batches until golden and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. Season the fish and chips with salt and vinegar to taste.
  8. Serve hot with tartar sauce or ketchup.
