Dutch Waffles

These delicious Dutch waffles, also known as Stroopwafels, are a sweet treat featuring a caramel-like syrup filling sandwiched between two thin waffle cookies.

Ingredients

  • Dark corn syrup - 1/2 cup
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Brown sugar - 1 cup
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Eggs - 2
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Butter - 1 cup, melted
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • All - purpose flour - 4 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add this to the flour mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces and roll each into a ball.
  4. Preheat your waffle iron and press each ball of dough into the iron. Cook until golden brown.
  5. While the waffles are cooking, make the filling by combining the brown sugar, cinnamon, and corn syrup in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  6. Once the waffles are done, carefully split them in half horizontally while they're still warm.
  7. Spread a layer of the filling on one half of each waffle, then top with the other half.
  8. Let the waffles cool before serving.
