Braciole

Braciole is a classic Italian dish made with beef, cheese, and breadcrumbs, slow-cooked in a rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • Red wine - 1/2 cup
  • Tomato sauce - 2 cups
  • Onion - 1, chopped
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
  • Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
  • Parsley - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Beef flank steak - 1.5 pounds

Instructions

  1. Lay the flank steak on a cutting board and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the garlic, parsley, Parmesan, and breadcrumbs.
  3. Spread the breadcrumb mixture over the steak, then roll up the steak and secure with kitchen twine.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the braciole and brown on all sides.
  5. Remove the braciole from the pot and set aside.
  6. In the same pot, add the onion and cook until soft. Add the tomato sauce and wine, then bring to a simmer.
  7. Return the braciole to the pot, cover, and simmer for 2 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  8. Remove the kitchen twine before serving.
