Yerba Mate
This traditional South American drink is made with yerba mate leaves and hot water.
Ingredients - Serves 1
- Hot water - 1 cup
- Yerba mate leaves - 2 tablespoons
Let's Get Started
- Fill a gourd or cup with yerba mate leaves, about two-thirds full.
- Cover the gourd or cup with your hand and shake it gently to settle the leaves.
- Tilt the gourd or cup at a 45-degree angle and pour hot water (not boiling) into the empty side.
- Allow the yerba mate leaves to absorb the water for a few seconds.
- Insert a bombilla (metal straw with a filter) into the wet side of the gourd or cup.
- Sip the yerba mate through the bombilla, avoiding stirring the leaves.
- Continue adding hot water to the gourd or cup as needed to maintain the infusion.
