Tacacá
Tacacá is a popular street food soup from Northern Brazil, particularly the state of Pará. It's made with jambu (a local herb), tucupi (a yellow sauce extracted from wild manioc root), dried shrimps and small yellow peppers.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt - To taste
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Small yellow peppers - 4
- Jambu - 2 cups
- Dried shrimps - 1 cup
- Tucupi - 4 cups
Let's Get Started
- Soak the dried shrimps in water for 15 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- In a large pot, bring the tucupi to a boil. Add the garlic and salt, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour.
- In a separate pot, blanch the jambu until it wilts, then drain and set aside.
- Add the shrimps and peppers to the pot with the tucupi and simmer for another 30 minutes.
- To serve, place a handful of jambu in each bowl, ladle the soup over the top, and garnish with extra peppers if desired.
