Roasted Turkey with Red Wine Gravy

Ingredients - Serves 8

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Rinse the turkey and pat dry. Rub the turkey all over with the softened butter, then season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Place the onion, garlic, thyme, and rosemary inside the turkey cavity.
  4. Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan. Roast in the preheated oven for about 4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. While the turkey is roasting, make the red wine gravy. In a saucepan, combine the red wine and chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the flour with a little bit of water to make a smooth paste. Slowly whisk this into the simmering wine and broth mixture.
  7. Continue to cook the gravy, stirring constantly, until it thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Once the turkey is done, remove from the oven and let rest for 20 minutes before carving. Serve with the red wine gravy.
