Plum Pudding
A traditional British dessert often served at Christmas, this rich, fruity pudding is a classic end to a festive meal.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Black treacle - 2 tablespoons
- Dark beer - 1/2 cup
- Mixed spice - 1 teaspoon
- Breadcrumbs - 1 cup
- Flour - 1 cup
- Eggs - 2
- Butter - 1/2 cup, softened
- Dark brown sugar - 1 cup
- Mixed dried fruit - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the dried fruit, brown sugar, butter, and eggs. Mix well.
- Add the flour, breadcrumbs, and mixed spice. Stir until well combined.
- Gradually add the beer and treacle, stirring constantly.
- Pour the mixture into a greased pudding basin. Cover with a lid or foil.
- Place the basin in a large pot of boiling water. The water should come halfway up the sides of the basin.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 4 hours, adding more water as necessary.
- Remove the pudding from the pot and let it cool for a few minutes before turning it out onto a plate.
- Serve the pudding warm, with custard or cream if desired.
