Nanbanzuke
Nanbanzuke is a traditional Japanese dish made with fried fish marinated in a sweet and sour sauce. It's a perfect blend of flavors that's sure to impress.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1/4 cup
- Rice vinegar - 1/2 cup
- Red bell pepper - 1, thinly sliced
- Carrot - 1, thinly sliced
- Onion - 1, thinly sliced
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Flour - 1/2 cup
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- White fish fillets - 4, about 150g each
Let's Get Started
- Season the fish fillets with salt and dust with flour.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry the fish until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté the onion, carrot, and bell pepper until softened.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the rice vinegar, soy sauce, sugar, and ginger to make the marinade.
- Pour the marinade over the sautéed vegetables in the pan and bring to a simmer.
- Add the fried fish to the pan and coat with the marinade. Simmer for a few minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the fish marinate in the sauce for at least 30 minutes before serving.
