Kroketten
Kroketten are a popular Dutch snack made with a creamy filling coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried to crispy perfection.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Breadcrumbs - 2 cups
- Eggs - 2
- Pepper - To taste
- Salt - To taste
- Ground nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
- Milk - 500 ml
- All-purpose flour - 4 tablespoons
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Potatoes - 1 kg
Let's Get Started
- Peel and boil the potatoes until tender. Drain and mash them.
- In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the flour to the melted butter and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened.
- Add the mashed potatoes, nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Stir until well combined.
- Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool completely.
- Once cooled, shape the mixture into small cylindrical croquettes.
- In a shallow dish, beat the eggs. Place the breadcrumbs in another shallow dish.
- Dip each croquette into the beaten eggs, then coat it in breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the croquettes in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
- Remove the croquettes from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve the kroketten hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
