Knäckebröd
Knäckebröd is a traditional Swedish crispbread that is thin, crispy, and perfect for topping with various spreads and toppings.
Ingredients - Serves 20
- Poppy seeds - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 1 cup
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Whole wheat flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt.
- Gradually add the water and olive oil to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for a few minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions.
- Roll out each portion of dough into a thin rectangle, about 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick.
- Transfer the rolled-out dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle the sesame seeds and poppy seeds evenly over the dough.
- Using a fork, prick the dough all over to prevent it from puffing up during baking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the knäckebröd is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let cool completely on wire racks.
- Break the knäckebröd into smaller pieces and serve with your favorite spreads and toppings.
