Kerala Spicy Prawn Curry
A traditional Kerala dish, this spicy prawn curry is packed with flavors of coconut and spices.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt - To taste
- Coconut milk - 1 cup
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Curry leaves - A sprig
- Green chillies - 2, slit
- Ginger - 1 inch piece, finely chopped
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Onions - 2, finely chopped
- Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Coconut oil - 2 tablespoons
- Prawns - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Clean and devein the prawns.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add onions, garlic, ginger, green chillies and curry leaves. Saute until onions turn golden brown.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Saute for a couple of minutes until the raw smell of the spices goes away.
- Add the prawns and salt. Mix well and cook for about 5 minutes.
- Add coconut milk and simmer for about 10 minutes until the prawns are cooked and the curry thickens.
- Serve hot with rice.
