Japanese Yakitori Chicken Wraps
These Japanese Yakitori Chicken Wraps are a delicious combination of grilled chicken skewers, fresh vegetables, and a tangy soy-based sauce, all wrapped in a soft tortilla.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
- Green onions - 2, thinly sliced (for garnish)
- Tortillas - 4, small
- Red onion - 1/2, thinly sliced
- Bell peppers - 2, thinly sliced
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Sake - 2 tablespoons
- Mirin - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1/4 cup
- Chicken breast - 2, boneless and skinless
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger to make the marinade.
- Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized pieces and add them to the marinade. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat the grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto skewers and brush them with vegetable oil.
- Grill the chicken skewers for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked through and slightly charred.
- Remove the chicken from the skewers and set aside.
- Heat the tortillas on the grill or in a pan until warm and pliable.
- To assemble the wraps, place a tortilla on a flat surface and add a few slices of grilled chicken, bell peppers, and red onion.
- Drizzle some of the remaining marinade over the filling.
- Sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
- Fold the sides of the tortilla over the filling and roll it up tightly.
- Repeat with the remaining tortillas and filling.
