  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk.
  4. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix the ingredients until a sticky dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it lightly for about 1 minute.
  6. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Using a sharp knife, score a deep cross on top of the loaf.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
