Irish Soda Bread
Traditional Irish soda bread made with simple ingredients like flour, buttermilk, baking soda, and salt.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Buttermilk - 1 and 3/4 cups
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Baking soda - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 4 cups
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk.
- Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix the ingredients until a sticky dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it lightly for about 1 minute.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a greased baking sheet.
- Using a sharp knife, score a deep cross on top of the loaf.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
