Hungarian Goulash
This traditional Hungarian goulash is a hearty and flavorful stew made with tender beef, onions, paprika, and caraway seeds.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Sour cream - 1/2 cup
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Bell peppers - 2, sliced
- Potatoes - 4 medium, peeled and cubed
- Beef broth - 4 cups
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Caraway seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Onions - 2 large, chopped
- Beef stew meat - 2 pounds, cubed
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat.
- Add the onions and garlic, and cook until softened.
- Add the beef stew meat and brown on all sides.
- Stir in the paprika, caraway seeds, and tomato paste.
- Pour in the beef broth and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Add the cubed potatoes and sliced bell peppers to the pot.
- Continue simmering for another 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the goulash hot, garnished with a dollop of sour cream and chopped fresh parsley.
