Gyro Burger
A delicious fusion of the classic Greek gyro and an American burger. This recipe combines ground lamb and beef, seasoned with traditional gyro seasonings, and served on a warm pita with tzatziki sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Red onion - 1/2, thinly sliced
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Lettuce - 1 cup, shredded
- Tzatziki sauce - 1/2 cup
- Pita bread - 4 pieces
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Ground cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ground beef - 1/2 pound
- Ground lamb - 1/2 pound
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, ground beef, garlic, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into 4 patties.
- Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- Warm the pita bread on the grill for about 1 minute on each side.
- Spread each pita with a generous amount of tzatziki sauce.
- Place a cooked patty on each pita and top with lettuce, tomato, and onion.
- Fold the pita around the burger and toppings, and serve.
