Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the rice according to package instructions and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  4. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the onion and garlic mixture. Stir well to combine and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  7. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the grated Gruyere cheese and half of the grated Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Add the cooked rice to the cheese sauce and mix well to combine.
  9. Transfer the rice mixture to a greased baking dish.
  10. In a small bowl, combine the remaining grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and chopped parsley. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the rice.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
  12. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  13. Serve the Gratin de Riz hot as a main course or as a side dish with your favorite protein.
