Gooey Butter Cake
A traditional, rich and deliciously gooey butter cake from St. Louis, Missouri.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Powdered sugar - 4 cups
- Cream cheese - 8 oz, softened
- Butter - 1 cup, melted
- Eggs - 3
- Yellow cake mix - 1 box
Let's Get Started
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine cake mix, 1 egg, and melted butter in a bowl and mix well. Press into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add 2 eggs, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar and beat until smooth.
- Spread cream cheese mixture over cake mix layer in baking dish.
- Bake in preheated oven until edges are brown and center jiggles slightly when pan is shaken, about 40 minutes.
- Let cake cool before cutting into squares and serving.
