Fish and Chips
Classic British fish and chips made with crispy battered fish and thick-cut potato chips.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and vinegar - To taste
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Potatoes - 4 large, peeled and cut into thick chips
- Cold water - 1 cup
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- White fish fillets - 4 fillets
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the cold water to the flour mixture, whisking until smooth and thick.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Dip each fish fillet into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off, then carefully place it into the hot oil.
- Fry the fish for about 5-6 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- In the same hot oil, fry the potato chips in batches until golden and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Season the fish and chips with salt and vinegar to taste.
- Serve hot with tartar sauce or ketchup.
