Fig and Bacon Jam
This sweet and savory fig and bacon jam is the perfect condiment for cheese boards, sandwiches, and more.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Ground cloves - 1/4 teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
- Apple cider vinegar - 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 1/4 cup
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Fresh figs - 1 pound, stemmed and chopped
- Bacon - 8 slices, chopped
Let's Get Started
- In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped figs and onion. Cook until the figs are soft and the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked bacon back to the skillet, along with the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer the mixture for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and let the jam cool completely.
- Transfer the jam to a jar or airtight container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
- Serve the fig and bacon jam with cheese, crackers, or as a spread for sandwiches.
