Eierbal
Eierbal, also known as Scotch Egg, is a popular Dutch snack. It's a boiled egg wrapped in a layer of sausage meat, coated in breadcrumbs, and then deep-fried.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Vegetable oil - For deep frying
- Breadcrumbs - 100 grams
- Flour - 100 grams
- Sausage meat - 500 grams
- Eggs - 4 large
Let's Get Started
- Boil the eggs for 8-10 minutes, then peel and set aside.
- Season the sausage meat with salt and pepper.
- Flatten a portion of the sausage meat and wrap it around one of the boiled eggs, making sure the egg is fully covered.
- Roll the meat-wrapped egg in flour, then dip in beaten egg, and roll in breadcrumbs.
- Repeat the process with the remaining eggs.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large, deep saucepan to 180°C (350°F).
- Carefully lower the eggs into the hot oil and deep-fry for 4-5 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
- Drain on kitchen paper, then leave to cool slightly before serving.
