Dutch Waffles
These delicious Dutch waffles, also known as Stroopwafels, are a sweet treat featuring a caramel-like syrup filling sandwiched between two thin waffle cookies.
Ingredients - Serves 10
- Dark corn syrup - 1/2 cup
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Brown sugar - 1 cup
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Eggs - 2
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Butter - 1 cup, melted
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 4 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add this to the flour mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces and roll each into a ball.
- Preheat your waffle iron and press each ball of dough into the iron. Cook until golden brown.
- While the waffles are cooking, make the filling by combining the brown sugar, cinnamon, and corn syrup in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Once the waffles are done, carefully split them in half horizontally while they're still warm.
- Spread a layer of the filling on one half of each waffle, then top with the other half.
