Churros Con Chocolate
Churros con Chocolate is a classic Spanish dessert consisting of fried dough pastries served with a rich chocolate dipping sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Heavy cream - 1 cup
- Dark chocolate - 8 ounces, chopped
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Eggs - 3
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup
- Water - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a saucepan, bring water and butter to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and add flour and salt. Stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball.
- Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, until the dough is smooth and shiny.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Pipe 4-6 inch long churros into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors.
- Fry until golden brown, turning occasionally, for about 5 minutes.
- Remove churros from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- In a shallow dish, mix sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the warm churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
- For the chocolate sauce, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until hot but not boiling.
- Remove from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate. Let it sit for a minute, then stir until smooth and creamy.
- Serve the churros warm with the chocolate sauce for dipping.
