Apple Pie
A classic homemade apple pie with a flaky crust and a sweet apple filling.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)
- Unsalted butter - 2 tablespoons, cut into small pieces
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1/4 cup
- Brown sugar - 1/4 cup
- Granulated sugar - 3/4 cup
- Apples - 6 cups, peeled, cored, and sliced
- Pie crust - 2 (9-inch) crusts
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well to coat the apples.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust.
- Dot the top of the apple filling with small pieces of unsalted butter.
- Cover the pie with the second pie crust. Trim any excess crust and crimp the edges to seal.
- Cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 1 hour before serving.
