Vegan Chili Cheese Dogs

These vegan chili cheese dogs are made with plant-based sausages, homemade chili, and dairy-free cheese.

Ingredients

  • Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
  • Dairy - free cheese - 1 cup, shredded
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 2 teaspoons
  • Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Canned diced tomatoes - 1 can
  • Canned kidney beans - 1 can, drained and rinsed
  • Bell pepper - 1, diced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1, diced
  • Hot dog buns - 4
  • Vegan sausages - 4

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill or stovetop grill pan.
  2. Grill the vegan sausages until heated through and slightly charred, about 5 minutes per side.
  3. In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat.
  4. Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and diced bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the drained kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  6. Simmer the chili for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Place the grilled sausages in the hot dog buns.
  8. Top each sausage with a generous amount of the homemade chili.
  9. Sprinkle dairy-free cheese on top of the chili.
  10. Place the chili cheese dogs under the broiler for a few minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.
