Tomato Sauce for Pasta

This homemade tomato sauce is perfect for pasta dishes. It's made with fresh tomatoes, garlic, and herbs.

Ingredients

  • Parmesan cheese - Grated, for serving
  • Fresh basil leaves - Handful, chopped
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - To taste
  • Salt - To taste
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
  • Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Tomatoes - 6 large, ripe, diced
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine.
  4. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 10 minutes to thicken the sauce.
  6. Stir in the chopped fresh basil leaves.
  7. Serve the tomato sauce over cooked pasta and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
