Somlar Kari Saek Mouan is a traditional Cambodian chicken curry dish with a rich and aromatic sauce.

Ingredients

  • Fresh cilantro - For garnish
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - To taste
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Curry powder - 2 tablespoons
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 large, chopped
  • Carrots - 2 medium, peeled and sliced
  • Potatoes - 2 medium, peeled and cubed
  • Coconut milk - 400 ml
  • Chicken - 500 grams, cut into pieces

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, and ginger. Cook until fragrant and the onion is translucent.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides.
  4. Add the curry powder and stir to coat the chicken.
  5. Pour in the coconut milk and bring to a simmer.
  6. Add the potatoes, carrots, fish sauce, sugar, and salt. Stir well to combine.
  7. Cover the pot and let the curry simmer for about 30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.
  8. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  9. Serve the Somlar Kari Saek Mouan hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
  10. Enjoy!
