Placki Ziemniaczane

Placki ziemniaczane, also known as potato pancakes, are a traditional Polish dish made with grated potatoes, onions, and flour. They are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect as a side dish or a main course.

Ingredients

  • Applesauce - 1/2 cup, for serving
  • Sour cream - 1/2 cup, for serving
  • Vegetable oil - 1/4 cup, for frying
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • All - purpose flour - 1/4 cup
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Onion - 1 medium, grated
  • Potatoes - 4 large, peeled and grated

Instructions

  1. Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out any excess moisture.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, grated onion, beaten egg, flour, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of the potato mixture into the hot oil and flatten them with the back of a spoon to form pancakes.
  5. Cook the pancakes for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Transfer the cooked pancakes to a paper towel-lined plate to remove any excess oil.
  7. Serve the placki ziemniaczane hot with sour cream and applesauce on the side.
