Hobbang

Hobbang, also known as Korean steamed buns, are fluffy and filled with a savory meat and vegetable filling.

Ingredients

  • Green onions - 2, finely chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, toasted
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Ground pork - 1/2 pound
  • Warm water - 1 cup
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 2 tablespoons
  • Active dry yeast - 2 teaspoons
  • All - purpose flour - 3 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the warm water and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. In a skillet, cook the ground pork over medium heat until browned. Add the onion, carrot, and garlic, and cook until the vegetables are tender.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, black pepper, sesame seeds, and green onions. Add this mixture to the skillet and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each portion into a circle.
  7. Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal.
  8. Place the filled buns on a steamer basket lined with parchment paper. Steam for 15-20 minutes, or until the buns are cooked through and fluffy.
  9. Serve the hobbang warm and enjoy!
