Fried Okra

Crispy and delicious fried okra made with fresh okra pods coated in a seasoned cornmeal mixture.

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil - 2 cups, for frying
  • Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • All - purpose flour - 1/2 cup
  • Cornmeal - 1 cup
  • Fresh okra - 1 pound, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  2. Dip the sliced okra into the cornmeal mixture, coating each piece evenly.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Carefully place the coated okra slices into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  5. Fry the okra in batches for about 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried okra to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve the fried okra hot as an appetizer or side dish.
