Fried Green Tomatoes

Crispy and tangy fried green tomatoes, perfect as an appetizer or side dish.

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil - 1/2 cup
  • Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Milk - 1/2 cup
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Cornmeal - 1 cup
  • All - purpose flour - 1 cup
  • Green tomatoes - 4 medium, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  2. In another shallow dish, whisk together the beaten egg and milk.
  3. Dip each tomato slice into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and back into the flour mixture to coat evenly.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  5. Fry the coated tomato slices in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Transfer the fried green tomatoes to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve hot as an appetizer or side dish.
