Catalan Cream Latte

A delicious and creamy latte inspired by the traditional Catalan dessert, Crema Catalana.

Ingredients

  • Orange zest - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 teaspoon
  • Egg yolk - 1
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Cinnamon - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Espresso or strong brewed coffee - 1 shot or 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolk, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  3. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to prevent curdling.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and creamy.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the orange zest.
  6. Brew a shot of espresso or strong coffee.
  7. Pour the espresso or coffee into a mug.
  8. Pour the creamy mixture over the espresso or coffee, stirring gently to combine.
  9. Optional: sprinkle some cinnamon or grated chocolate on top for garnish.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy!
